Controversy continues to surround billionaire electric vehicle (EV) guru and space enthusiast Elon Musk over how he is choosing to run the X (formerly Twitter) social media platform since taking it private.
The Guardian‘s Robert Reich is so upset about the direction Musk has taken X that he wants regulators around the world to “threaten” Musk “with arrest” unless he capitulates to certain demands.
Reich also believes that We the People hold the power to stop Musk as well. Here are six ways that Reich believes both the general public and the government can “rein in” Musk:
1) Boycott Tesla
Even if you disagree that Musk is a bad guy who needs punishment, Tesla cars are still unsafe, overpriced and an all-around bad investment. Musk’s companies would not be the “success” they are without U.S. taxpayer subsidies.
Reich’s reasons for boycotting Tesla are obviously different as he sees Musk as someone who is allowing too much online free speech. Apparently, there are others who feel the same as a recent poll found that one-third of all Britons say they are less likely to buy a Tesla because of Musk’s recent behavior.
2) Boycott advertising on X
This one is all about stopping Musk from allowing conservative speech on X, which before he took over was strictly prohibited. A coalition of advertisers is teaming up to try to stop Musk, prompting him to declare war with an antitrust lawsuit.
“We tried peace for 2 years, now it is war,” Musk wrote.
3) Urge regulators to stop Musk by threatening him with arrest
What just happened to Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in France is what Reich also wants to happen to Musk for “disseminating lies and hate on X.”
4) Have the FTC order Musk to obey under threat of lawsuit
In Reich’s opinion, Musk’s free speech rights under the First Amendment “don’t take precedence over the public interest.” He believes this because of a recent Supreme Court ruling that allows federal agencies to pressure social media companies to take down “misinformation.”
5) Call for U.S. to terminate all contracts with Musk, starting with SpaceX
In 2021 while the world was distracted by the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) “pandemic,” Washington forged a $1.8 billion contract with SpaceX that includes “blasting off classified and military satellites.” Without these kinds of U.S. taxpayer-funded agreements, SpaceX and Musk’s other companies would likely fail.

A few months back, Reich also wrote an article condemning the pro-Palestine protests on college campuses. He claims he supports free speech, but like many are saying these days, there should be “a limit,” he says, on what people are allowed to say.
“[U]niversities should go out of their way to tolerate expression that may make some people uncomfortable,” he wrote. “To tar all offensive speech ‘hate speech’ and ban it removes a central pillar of education. Of course, it’s offensive. It is designed to offend.”
“There is a limit, of course. Expression that targets specific students, ‘doxes’ them, or otherwise aims to hurt them as individuals doesn’t invite learning. It is a form of intimidation. It should not be allowed.”
In other words, keep your mouth shut if you have anything other than praise for Zionism because to speak your mind against the war is to hurt the feelings of Jewish people who would rather not have to face a “hostile environment.”
