Technology giant Apple was found to be aiding the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in suppressing protests against Chinese paramount leader Xi Jinping, further cementing its status as a company opposed to the values the U.S. stands for.
A report by Reclaim The Net elaborated on how the company founded by Steve Jobs and two others assisted the anti-freedom actions of Beijing. It cited how Apple restricted the use of the AirDrop file sharing tool in mainland China and Hong Kong. Mainland-based protesters use the tool to spread protest literature, while their counterparts in the special administrative region use it to communicate with other protesters, bystanders and tourists from the mainland.
However, a recent update on the iOS platform restricted the duration of time that users can receive files – from indefinite to 10 minutes. The iOS update initially applied to mainland China alone, but Apple later added that it will roll out the 10-minute restriction on AirDrop in other countries next year.
Protesters opposing China’s draconian health measures against the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19), and Xi by extension, prompted the use of AirDrop as it uses direct connections between devices. The file-sharing tool enabled protesters to communicate without the risk of being censored.
However, the iOS update’s timing amid the biggest protests China has seen in more than three decades raised many questions.
According to Reclaim The Net, this was not the first time the tech company yielded to the demands of the CCP.
“Apple has helped Beijing to suppress public dissent multiple times, mostly by complying with its requests to remove apps used by protesters for information and communication,” it wrote. “Apple also helps the CCP prevent users from remaining private by banning virtual private networks in the region.” (Related: Apple conspires with Beijing to suppress dissent and silence the masses who are being tortured into slave labor at Apple iPhone factories.)
Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson, meanwhile, blasted the Cupertino, California-based Apple for being an “active collaborator” with the CCP. In a scathing op-ed published Nov. 29, the “Tucker Carlson Tonight” host stated that Apple “is in no sense American” and its loyalty “is to the government of China.”
“When iPhone users in China began using permanent AirDrop to complain about the [CCP], Apple just shut it down,” he said. “In other words, Apple is now an active collaborator with China’s murderous police state.”
According to Carlson, “Apple’s decision to side with the oppressors over the oppressed, actively help America’s enemies [and] hurt ordinary people seeking freedom” stemmed from the fact that it has been “sucking up” to the CCP “for many years.”
“Why does Apple, as a company, feel the need to cover for the CCP? Why does it feel the need to help the CCP oppress its own citizens? Those are good questions. We reached out to Apple [as we] wanted to hear their side of the story, [but we] did not hear back.”
Carlson ultimately remarked that Apple indeed “engages in large-scale secretive censorship.” He added that this is preventing American citizens from saying what they believe or getting to the truth about something while bolstering the power of one of the most repressive governments in the world.
“Always and everywhere, Apple helps the Chinese government,” he said.
