‘Anonymous’ hacking group ‘declares war’ on ISIS following Paris attacks

(Cyberwar.news) The infamous hacking group, “Anonymous,” has responded to the Paris attacks by posting a video online declaring “war” against the terrorist organization known as ISIS, or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, CNBC.com reported Monday.

The video, which at the time of this writing had not yet been independently verified as authentic, a spokesperson for the organization who was wearing a Guy Fawkes mask said its hackers would use their expertise to wage “war” on ISIS.

“Expect massive cyber attacks,” the spokesperson said in French. “War is declared. Get prepared,”

“Anonymous from all over the world will hunt you down. You should know that we will find you and we will not let you go. We will launch the biggest operation ever against you,” the spokesperson continued, according to translated transcripts of the video.

ISIS is known to operate in parts of Syria and Iraq, where its leaders have declared an Islamic “Caliphate.” Recently, the group has orchestrated more attacks abroad, including the downing of a Russian airliner over Egypt in recent weeks, and, Friday, attacks at six separate locations in downtown Paris, where 128 were killed.

In the wake of the Paris attacks EU officials have launched a manhunt across Europe to root out anyone who helped plan and assist in the Paris attacks. Meanwhile, France launched massive airstrikes against ISIS targets in Raqqa, Syria, the group’s titular capital.

In Anonymous’ latest video, the masked spokesperson says that “the French people are stronger than you and will come out of this atrocity even stronger,” although the video was not on the group’s official channel.

That said, a tweet from the group’s official Twitter account said Sunday that the organization was at war with Daesh (another name for the Islamic State).

“The hacker group rose to prominence after a series of cyber attacks against individuals, governments and organizations that it does not approve of, including PayPal, Mastercard and the Church of Scientology, among numerous others,” CNBC.com reported.
